Family Guy- Another Freakin' Mobile Game

  • Chloe Garcia

Family Guy is a show that has received a mixed reception. Some people absolutely love it and are constantly glued to their screen to catch up with the offensive humor and others cannot stand this show. I happen to love the show very much. I like not only the rude jokes but also the memorable characters. I don’t get why anyone would have anything about Family Guy.
Seeing that I am a very big fan of the show, I was ecstatic to hear that there was an app. I got the Family Guy: the Quest for Staff Android app as soon as I heard about it and I have to say it did not live up to all my expectations. I have a love-hate relationship with this app.

The Good

The first thing I noticed when I got the Google Android version is the fact that the game has outstanding graphics. The characters are well animated, and the surroundings and houses look exactly as they look in the show. I noticed that even the small graphic details like the ‘The Drunken Calm’ sign is animated. I also like that the music in the game is from the show.
The storyline is what you would expect from Family Guy, it is silly but interesting.  Basically, Chicken and Peter get into a serious fight that causes the destruction of Quahog. It is your duty as the player to restore things to order by building up the town.

However, there is so much that you get to do apart from crafting the town. For one, you get to collect characters in Free Space. Free Space is the game’s take on Facebook. Every time you unlock a new character, you will see them appear on your Free Space. Every time the characters level up, you will receive rewards which will appear as Free Space posts. You can also level up by collecting different items and completing your missions. All this is made fun by the fact that the game has great controls that are very easy to use and are conveniently located on the screen.

I also love that you can go into Stewie’s multiverse which he found in one of the show’s episodes. By entering the multiverse, you get to visit your neighbors and perform different acts in return for coins before you get back to your town. This removes the monotony of doing the same thing over and over again from the game.

Finally, I like that this game is available for iPhone, iPad, tablets and Android mobile. Both the App Store and Google Play app for this game have similar features, so you do not miss out on anything by using either of the versions.

The Bad

Although this app is free, it is packed with in-app purchases which are quite annoying because you keep getting badgered to purchase something. For instance, in the first mission, you will be reminded to buy $4.99 worth of coins which earns you $.4.99 worth of clams as your bonus. In order to unlock different characters, you are required to complete certain tasks using other characters. One of the tasks has to be completed using a character only available in the premium version. The Stewie character also keeps badgering you to purchase clams.

Is It Worth It?

I have been playing this iOS and Android mobile game for a while now, and I have to say I am addicted. The game might not have lived up to all my expectations, but it is very fun to play. I think anyone who enjoys watching the show will love this game. Therefore,  would recommend it to all the shows’ fans. However, I would not recommend it to anyone who dislikes the game because there is a great chance you will not like it especially if you are not fond of the offensive humor of the show which is also present in this game. The developers need to look into updating the app with improvements to make it better. If this is done, the game will definitely be among my favorites. Get the latest version of this leading app on either the App Store or Google Play Store.
