Roku users now have access to the ad-supported Disney+ tier, Disney+ Basic. Since the launch of the ad-supported plan four months ago, many users have been surprised to find that it wasn’t accessible on Roku. Although Disney and Roku were in talks about reaching an agreement, it was not until recently that the dispute was settled.
The dispute between Disney and Roku was due to an ad-revenue split agreement. By default, channels must enter an ad-revenue split with Roku. Therefore, it was necessary for both parties to reach an agreement in order to make Disney+ Basic available to Roku users.
The ad-supported plan offers the same content as Disney+ but with the addition of ads. This gives users the option to pay less for the same content. Users can watch Disney+ Basic on the Roku app, as well as on other devices.
The ad-supported plan also allows users to access content from a variety of Disney-owned services, such as Disney Channel, Marvel, Pixar, and more. This gives users access to a wide range of content.
