Asus Zenfone 4 Max Pro
The Asus ZenFone 4 Max Pro is the primary model for the ZenFone 4 Max series and the successor of the popular ZenFone 3 Max. Recently with the new introduction of the ZenFone Max M1 in the series and the announcement ZenFone Max will become a series by themselves. Does the ZenFone 4 Max Pro have what it takes to lead the series?
Unlike the flagship ZenFone 4 Pro, the ZenFone 4 Max Pro has an aluminum unibody built. The body is separated by an antenna band on top and one at the bottom of the phone. The aluminum built allows for greater heat dispensing capability. The body of the phone is generally curvy, which gives the phone a very comfortable grip.
At the top front of the phone, you have the front mic with a built-in notification LED to the far left. Front Camera at the right along with a delightful surprise next to it-front camera flash.
Down below is your multi-function button, acting as a finger print sensor and home button. The fingerprint sensor unlocks the device in a split second. Is not the fastest in the market but still practical enough for daily use. We’re not a big fan of the one-button-does-it-all design and are very glad for the presences of the back and recent buttons.
To the right of the phone we have your SIM tray. On the left edge, we can find the volume rockers together with the power/unlock button.
Below the phone, we have the Micro USB port and a pair of speakers. Bear in mind that only the right speaker grid houses the actual speaker within, the left speaker grid is there purely for aesthetic purposes only.
With it’s 181 grams lightweight aluminum body, the Zenfone 4 Max Pro will sit well in your palm for long hours. Allowing for a comfortable vertically and horizontally grip throughout.
The Zenfone 4 Max Pro comes with a 5.5 inch(720 X 1280) HD 2.5D curved glass display, 401 dpi, and Super IPS+ technology. This is a slight disappointment knowing that the Zenfone 3 Max from the previous Max series houses an FHD display. The difference in the viewing experience is considerably noticeable when comparing side by side. However, still good enough day to day usage.
At peak brightness the ZenFone 4 Max Pro screen is as clear as they come. There is no problem viewing the phone even under sunny conditions. Colour reproduction has a slight bluish-tone, but still pleasant nonetheless.
The high definition screen is a disappointment since the last generation of ZenFone 3 Max spotted a full HD screen. It is saddening see a new generation of smartphones with downgraded hardware.
The Zenfone 4 Max Pro carries the same SOC with the Zenfone 3 Max, the mid-range Qualcomm Snapdragon 430, Octa-Core 1.4 GHz with 3GB of RAM. This is alarming, as we do expect the ZenFone 4 Max Pro to have an upgrade of sorts, yet no difference is found. The current ZenFone 4 Max Pro comes with 32GB built-in storage.
Interestingly, Zenfone 4 Max Pro does slightly outperform the previous generation of Zenfone 3 Max. On PC Mark with the newest update on both phone and a clean setup on the Zenfone 4 Max Pro actually hit 9.30 hours of battery life, whereas the Zenfone 3 Max scores only 7 hours usage.
At the beginning, we thought there was some errors in the test so we re-tested it. The second testing on the battery life on the ZenFone 4 Max Pro is even better! Clocking in at 10.30 hours. We deem the result as reliable, and it does show the Zenfone 4 Max Pro can hold its own ground when compared with its predecessor.
The ZenFone 4 Max carries a simple mono speaker. Comparing to others, the results were swell. It does produce well-layered, crisp sound sounds. Ultimately, it is well suited for regular day to day usage.
ZenFone 4 Max Pro features a dual-camera system, we’re not particularly sure what camera was used in the camera, what we do know is that the main camera is 16MP, F2.0, 25mm equivalent focal length in 35mm film camera.
The secondary camera is a 5MP, F2.2, 17.9mm equivalent focal length in 35mm film camera. It lets you fit more scenery into landscape shots, and people into we-fies.
We can truly see an improvement in the camera as the ZenFone 4 Max Pro actually comes with a dual back-camera setting. Fantastic for taking photos at parties or vacations.
PRICING & FINAL THOUGHTS
The Zenfone 4 Max Pro is a good everyday business phone. It’s 10 hours of battery life can really help someone to get the job done without any hiccups in between. The long battery life is incredibly helpful for those who are always on the go.
Unfortunately, there are no updates on the SOC, plus a downgraded screen. In conclusion, we can only recommend the ZenFone 4 Max Pro to those who seek a commonplace smartphone with strong importance in battery longevity.
“10 hours batteries life is a big point to help with work”
“Slick design at a AFFORDABLE price”
- Long battery life
- Balance performance vs battery
- Drop from FHD (Max 3) to HD
- Lack of bass in sound producing but understandable for vocal reproduction
